Discussion: The Crisis of Integration
66 unread replies.66 replies.
In 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling in Brown v. Board of Education that “separate but equal” had no place in public education and further mandated that U.S. public school districts needed to comply with the ruling by desegregating schools “with all deliberate speed.” Mansfield ISD was one of the first to Texas to attempt to comply with the Court’s ruling. What motivated Mansfield to attempt comply with the order? In what ways could Mansfield have prevented the problems that arose from the attempted integration? To what extent is integration still a concern in Texas schools?
