SamanthaHello group members,
I wanted to start off by saying I had a lot of fun with this discussion post. For my word pairs, I chose to do Nail -> Hammer, Bow ->Hair, Club -> House, Band ->Music, Lash ->Mascara, Ring -> Wedding. From these word combinations, I concluded that one was masculine, three were feminine, and two were neutral. With that being said, my word pairs did conform to my own gender because my highest scoring gender rating was feminine. I believe that the reason my answers leaned towards being feminine is that that is what I relate to and what comes to my mind faster. Through the chapter we learn that culture is a large part of gender roles and growing up Hispanic it is very common for a woman to dedicate herself to the family while a man provides. Though as I have grown up, this is not particularly the way I believe the situation needs to happen, there are unconscious biases in my mind from my upbringing. In addition, I believe that gender conformity is a good thing, but in moderation just like anything. I believe that men and women were both made with different strengths and weaknesses, and those play a large role in our genders. I think the society we have grown up in now has developed tremendously giving women more presence in the workplace and respecting a father who wants to stay home with his kids, which I see as a good thing though some may believe that goes against gender roles. Overall, this chapter highlighted several interesting points and facts that I was unfamiliar with. For example, I enjoyed learning about the way that both our nature and nurture. I believe both these factors; biology and our upbringing equally contribute to our development. In conclusion, this was an interesting chapter, and I was happy to learn that women statically speaking have less of a chance of being killed by lightning.
2 Discussion Ashhly
My word pairings were:
Nail-Hammer = Masculine
Bow-Wow (the rapper lol) = Masculine
Club-Sandwich = Neutral
Band-Aid = Neutral
Lash-Out = Neutral
Ring-Engagement = Feminine
My word pairings were not gender conforming they were more neutral. My thought process involved just clearing my mind and thinking of the 1st word that came to my mind when I thought of the original word. The reason I think my pairings were gender neutral and didn’t focus on more feminine aspects of the word is because of the gender schema theory. Gender Schema Theory says that children learn about male and female roles from the cultures in which they live. I grew up in a single mom household, so I saw my mom perform both “gender roles”. She did the cooking, cleaning, but also the yard work and home repairs. Although I learned about the “appropriate” gender roles growing up I didn’t witness the traditional gender roles in a home, so my thought processes have always been a little different. I don’t think gender conformity is a good or bad thing. I think it’s just something that comes naturally because of our biological make up. Although, I don’t think women should be subjected to housework and men be subjected to hard labor. I feel like everyone should be able to perform whatever role makes them most comfortable. My thinking on gender roles hasn’t changed given the content of this chapter. I respect gender roles and understand them, but I choose to not conform to them. I prefer to be neutral. I like using all my talents to balance both sides of the gender roles spectrum. I know a ton of households still follow the gender role rules but you can see the tide is turning on a more modern approach to gender roles.

The discussion section is where you get to talk about what you found in your experiment, and what it means. The introduction and the discussion section are like bookends, and they should complement each other nicely. If you have written a good introduction, the discussion section is a breeze. At the end of the intro, you should have laid out your hypothesis and prediction for the experiment. The prediction is often of the form
If the hypothesis is correct, then x should happen in my experiment
This makes the discussion easy. Did x happen? If so, great. You have supported your hypothesis (note that you haven’t proven your hypothesis – there could be another hypothesis that would lead to the same result). Did x not happen? Even better! You have proven your hypothesis to be flawed (unless you have a power problem – more on that later).
Start your discussion by summarizing your findings IN ENGLISH. No statistical talk here. Do not talk about findings that you didn’t report in your Method section. Then interpret your findings. Are they consistent with your hypothesis or not? Do they support or refute your hypothesis? If you have multiple findings, you may want to devote a paragraph to the discussion of each. This statement of results and implications is the bare bones of a discussion.
A good discussion will then go on to give some context to the results. Are they consistent with other research in the field? Is there a discrepancy in the literature that your study helps to clarify? Or do you add to a growing body of evidence for something?
If you have some concerns about your interpretation, now is the time to voice them. If you got null effects, do you think it could be because you don’t have enough power (enough subjects or enough trials). Note that power can only be a possible explanation if your results are at least going in the right direction. If you used similar numbers of subjects to others who have found effects, than power is not likely the problem. If you have correlational data, you would want to caution your reader that you are unable to make causal interpretations.
Finally, does your study raise new questions? If your findings were unexpected, can you think of a hypothesis to explain them? Is there any support in the literature for this new hypothesis? Could you propose a way to test your new hypothesis that could be used in future research?
For this paper, please go back and review the chapters in Revel. Select 10 chapters in which you learned something interesting. For each of these 10 chapters, select 2 things that you learned about and tell me how knowing about these things will help you in your life (at work, in your home, with your friends, etc.).
Make sure you have headings in your paper and bold the concepts you refer to. Structure your paper to look like this for each chapter:
In this chapter, I learned about X. X is defined as ____________________________________. I can use what I know about X to help me in my life by __________________________________________.
In this chapter, I learned about Y. Y is defined as ____________________________________. I can use what I know about Y to help me in my life by __________________________________________.
Be sure to write a thorough explanation in paragraph form for each of these. My major is nursing
Psychology, 2nd Edition by Amy J. Marin, Roger R. Hock,Amy J. Marin
The prevalence of social media has had a huge impact on society in the area of how we tend to relate to each other and on what is considered to be normal in general. Taking a look at the ways in which social media changes attitudes and “norms” makes for an interesting study, and one that is applicable to understanding how society is slowly changing over time.
For this assignment, you will first conduct your own research on the effects of social media on societal norms (Part 1), then you will examine what has been found through previous research conducted by others (Part 2).
Compare and contrast the attitudes of two cohorts of people; one that consists of five people that rarely use social media and one cohort of five people that uses social media 2 or more hours a day.
Create a list of five people that you know that use social media at least 2 or more hours per day. This group of people will make up your first cohort. Then create a list of five people that you know that either do not use social media or use it very rarely. Take into account age when creating the cohorts, and try to keep the ages as similar as possible between the cohorts. Keeping a certain level of consistency in the two cohorts will help to negate the potential effects of generational differences. Provide a brief description of each of the ten people you are going to interview divided into their respective cohorts.
In other words, list the five people in the social media at least 2 or more hours a day, and provide a brief description of each along with why you chose them. Then provide a list of the five people that rarely or never use social media, and provide a brief description of each along with why you chose them.
Interview the participants to learn the similarities and differences between the two cohorts as it relates to attitudes, lifestyles, and relationships. Write a two-page paper comparing and contrasting what you learned about the two cohorts. Be sure to relate your findings to cultivation theory and socialization theory in the paper.
Now you will compare your research with research findings through previous research conducted by others. Look up at least 3 articles in the Rasmussen Library that relate to the topic of social media and its impact on society. You are not limited to articles that are strictly written on the specific topic of social media and norms. Articles that are covering social media and society are available from a wide number of angles. After studying these articles, write a two-page paper on what you learned on the topic of social media and its potential impact on societal attitudes, customs, and norms.

Can you please do 2 different journal entries. 500 WORDS EACh.
For each journal, choose something you have encountered that connects specifically to our course content. For example, you could discuss something from your personal experience or something you read, watched, or heard. Students in the past have written about many random and varied topics such as TV shows, going to Target, conversations with friends, being on dating apps, TikTok videos, political news, babysitting young children, readings from other courses, and so on. The idea of this assignment is to demonstrate your growing awareness of gender dynamics and to encourage you to apply what we are learning to your everyday life. The more specific you can be about the class material that relates to the subject of your journal, the better. For example, you could discuss how your topic relates to a specific psychological concept, reference a specific part of an assigned reading, or comment on some specific ideas shared during class discussion.
I also attached some sample topics that you can use pick one for each response.
From the positive psychology link at the end of the power-point, summarize the article and include any personal experience you’ve had with positive psychology. Do you buy into this philosophy and live your life this way or not? Why or why not?
